Since in marriage the two become one, Jim’s “one small action” receives today’s focus. Little sleep last night, plus recovering from a nasty stomach flu and cold put me at less than top performamce this morning. Still, the weekly 8:30 am team Skype call beckoned. Jim made me coffee and brought it to the table where I slumped at my laptop in fleece robe and pink slippers. He brought breakfast as I worked. Jim’s one small action got me started today. He could have let me take care of myself, but he saw a need and chose to act so that I could work with the team…albeit in my slippers. God keeps track of these small “noticings,” coupled with small “respondings.” So do I. It brought to mind one of my favorite passages, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look out not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others” Philippians 2:3,4 (NIV).
