News reports overflow with accounts of followers of Jesus coming to the aid of people suffering in Japan, Haiti and other areas of horrific disaster. These times bring to light the true nature of the love of Jesus. One can argue philosophy and theology all day. It’s more difficult to argue with the selfless love flowing from people of faith who give up the “normal” pusuits of wealth and health to shower compassion on a hurting world.
A favorite verse to one I dearly love says, “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16, NASB). In other words, look at what I do and give glory to God, not to me.
I speak to myself, as well in saying, men and women who call Jesus your Lord, remember that God tells you to be blameless, “children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe” (Philippians 2:15, NIV).
